The PIC Microcontroller Family
A long-running line of 8-bit to 32-bit chips.
PIC is a family of microcontrollers made by Microchip Technology. Small parts have as few as six pins; larger ones add many timers, ADCs and communication ports. The 8-bit models are popular for learning and low-cost products.
Most PIC firmware is written in C with a vendor-supported or third-party compiler, and chips are programmed through a dedicated programmer connected to a few pins.
When choosing a part, compare flash size, RAM, pin count and which peripherals you need.
